How to

Go HAYWIRE

You will need:

Scissors

3 yards of Lanyard String

1 yard of 1/2" wide fleece strip

4 Straws

31 Pony Beads

Threader or Tapestry Needle

Cut your straws into 1/4 length pieces.

This means that you will get 4 pieces out of each straw.

You will have 16 straw pieces total.

In the end of your lanyard string, tie a slip knot.

Slip a bead onto the length of your string.

Take the long end of the string and put it though the slip knot.

Pull the lanyard string tight to secure the bead. Slip on a straw piece and a bead.

Take the end of your string and put it back through the straw.

Pull the string tight.

At the end of the string, add a bead, a straw and another bead.

Put the end of the string back through the straw and the inside bead.

Hold the outer bead and pull the string.

This will advance the group down to the original grouping of bead-straw-bead.

Once it is pulled tight, it will look like this.

Repeat the last 3 steps until you only have one bead and one straw left.

When you have only one straw and one bead left, your work should look something like this:

Take the long end of your string from the end of your work...

...Run it through the first bead that you strung.

(This bead should have the slip knot around it.)

Slip on your last straw and bead.

Put the end of the string back through the straw and tighten it up to the group.

Put the end of the string back through the first bead you strung.

(Again, this is the bead with the slip knot.)

Tie the string from the end of the slip knot and the of your work together tight.

A double-knot should do the trick.

This is how everything should look at this point.

Next, you'll want to start pulling fleece through the end beads.

Pull the fleece through, leaving about 1.5" on either side, and cut the excess off.

It should look like a bowtie.

Round the ends off with some small scissors.

Repeat until it's cute!
